"Property Magic"

This is a slightly different article than the usual. Instead of talking about the latest investing strategy I would like to share with your something far more valuable. An understanding about yourself, that could help to make you truly successful (or not as you will see later depending on your mindset attitude and beliefs).

On 6th May, 1954 Roger Banister was the first person in history to run a mile in under 4 minutes. Prior to this nobody thought it was possible. Doctors said that the human body could not move that fast and yet one man proved that is was possible. In the 12 months after Roger had broken this world record, a number of other runners also achieved this incredible feat. So what changed for those runners? Was it a new running technique, improved diet, or better shoes? No, quite simply, inspired by Roger they changed their belief of what was possible.

The same is true in property. Many investors approach me for advice on how to be more successful. A common problem is when investors say they are just not getting the results they want despite them taking all the necessary action. Usually, I find people are just not taking enough action. However, sometimes it appears that they are actually doing everything they need but they are still not getting the results. This is due to one missing factor, which is the belief that they can do it.

Your beliefs are incredibly strong and are completely true for you. You beliefs will shape the way you see the world. The reality is whether you believe you can or can’t do something, you are absolutely correct. Also you always will seek evidence to support your belief. Your beliefs affect your attitude and the actions that you take or don’t take.

I find it fascinating that two people can be given the same information and come away with totally different outcomes. Let me share a personal experience to highlight what a difference in attitudes and beliefs can make.

When I first released my book “Property Magic” the feedback was generally very good but I did get the following negative review by one reader on Amazon: “No Magic here....I keep hearing how great Simon is. He might be, but this book hardly reveals anything about profiting from property, except, "Come on my course to find out". Glad I got it through the library". A rather cynical view maybe but still that was his belief.

In contrast to this a few weeks ago, I was at an event in London and a lady came up me and said she just wanted to introduced herself and say thank you! I asked her why and she explained that she had purchased my book when it first came out, thought it was great, read it from cover to cover and put it into practise. She was a mother of four, had not done any courses or seminars, just followed what I outlined in the book and been able to buy 17 properties, all no money down, most of which she had then flipped onto first time buyers walking out with over £100k profit in just 12 months, such that her husband was able to give up work. This was all possible with some god information and the right can do attitude.

So what can you do to make sure you have the right attitude and mindset? Here are some tips.

Change your limiting beliefs: First recognise what they might be then make the decision to change them by finding new empowering beliefs and look for evidence to support those new beliefs. Find someone who has accomplished what you want to achieve and learn from them.

Fill your head with positivity: Stop listening to all the doom and gloom on the radio and watching the news on TV. Instead listen to personal development CDs and fill your mind with possibilities and positivity

Surround yourself with positive like-minded individuals: Sometimes our friends and family don’t always give us the support we need. You must to get a group of like-minded people around you who will allow you to shine, support you and hold you to account.

Develop a CAN DO Attitude: We all have challenges in our lives but rather than focusing on the problems and what you can’t do how about instead focusing on the potential solutions and what you can do.

Don’t worry about things over which you have no influence: Most people spend time worrying about things that are never going to happen and that they never have any control over anyway. This is a pointless waste of time and energy.

Live with a positive expectation: Expect things to go right for you. See the glass as half full not half empty. Look of the bright side of life and remember how fortunate you are.

Think Big: Most people think too small. If you think big your problems seem relatively small.
