What gets you out of bed on a Monday morning? Is it…

The need to earn money to pay the bills or the willingness to achieve?

For successful people it is all about Motivation and Mindset. Motivation is the driving factor behind the choices we make in life, it affects our decision making and determines the outcome of our choices, which in turn helps to determine our success rate.

Let me give you an example: I watched the 2011 Danny Boyle film “127 Hours” over the weekend, about trapped climber, Aron Ralston, you may have seen it or be aware of the story. Trapped by a boulder crushing his arm in a cleft in the rock, while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah (the middle of nowhere), he was faced with the choice of a slow agonising death or taking the desperate measure of self amputation with a blunt penknife in order to survive. Without ruining the film for those that may not have watched it yet, his story was truly inspirational and goes to show what any individual is capable of achieving when given the right motivation.

But, do we really need to go to such extremes to be inspired or motivated? The honest answer is, No!

Ok, so the example may be a little extreme, but it is inspirational. A remarkable story of determination born of desperation and triumph over adversity. Aron went on to achieve even greater things following his accident and is still very much alive and enjoying life!

So, what motivates you? Making a better life for you and your loved ones, a long held dream of financial freedom, or the desire for untold wealth and riches beyond imagination?

To be motivated to achieve success is one thing but overcoming limiting beliefs and obstacles can be another thing entirely. For property investment success you need The Property Investing Mindset!

So, what does it take to become a successful property investor?

Most people expect some kind of quick formula which will help them to become successful straight away by acquiring the latest property investment strategy, trends or information.

As with anything, knowledge is essential. In the context of property investing, knowledge is normally acquired by way of learning via trial and error, occupational learning or educational courses. There are always a plethora of educational courses out there for property investors. Many are run by some of the UK’s most successful property investors, educators and entrepreneurs. I would recommend any property investment networking events, courses or opportunities run by Simon Zutshi, (Property Investors Network, PIN), Rob Moore & Mark Homer (Progressive Property) or Parmdeep Vadesha (Tycoon), as I have tried and tested courses and opportunities from all of the above and I believe they offer excellent educational, motivational and inspirational content as well as great value for money.

However it should be noted that even knowledge has its limitations, without the right attitude. Having a combination of the right knowledge and the right attitude is the powerful combination that can progress you at a much faster rate.

It could be argued that many people have already failed at property investment before even starting since they have the wrong mindset.

Mindset is everything when it comes to property investing!

Property investors can have different goals and that is fine as you make choices to suit your lifestyle, but one of the key components to successful property investing is mindset.

Another example: The Belief System and the Paradigm Shift. In 1954 Roger Bannister was the first person in history to run a mile within four minutes. Prior to this it was concluded that it was impossible for the human body to achieve such speed, and hence sportsmen did not target four minutes as a goal since it was a belief that it was scientifically impossible. In less than twelve months after Roger Bannister’s record other runners were also able to accomplish a mile within 4 minutes.

So what changed? We know it wasn’t about diet, shoes, nutrition or technique. They just changed their attitude and beliefs. They changed their mindset or had what is commonly known as a paradigm shift. If you look at major events and groundbreaking achievements through the course of time you will find endless examples of things which were considered impossible that became possible.

Always have an open mind. Be prepared to learn and change your beliefs. You can achieve what may seem impossible. The miracle of compounding is your leverage. The property investor always goes through paradigm shifts in learning new techniques and learning by experience until the pinnacle mindset is achieved. The pinnacle mindset is often referred to as ‘the abundant mindset’ where opportunities for investing are always perceived to be readily available.

Armed with knowledge and self belief, anything is achievable, if you open your mind to the myriad of possibilities!
